network security objectives

objectives in network security?

Basically to avoid unauthorized access to the internal network and register such attempts.

For that you use firewall’s. There are several functions that a firewall can perform. NAT, stateful protocol and network access rules, keeps register of attempted attacks, block port sniffers, deep inspection, web filtering (to avoid access to webs with malicious code) and anti-malware. Firewalls usually run VPN’s too. Some of those functions require frequent actualizations. A company can have more than one firewall.

For authorized access to the internal network, the company can setup a separate DMZ network for outside web site or e-mail access, or give access to an internal PC or server to be accessed by specific protocol (sometimes changing the default TCP/UDP ports), if possible specifying specific outside PC and requesting access credentials.
