network security problems

How to get my network security key, again?

i use a bellsouth router which i have been using 4 a year, but i had some connecting problems & its asking my key in order 4 me to go wireless again, i read somewhere that ur pc stores a copy of ur router’s key, is so then how do i find it? Any other ideas u guys have could work too *10 points*

to get your WEP or security key for your router if it did not come in the box or if it is not on the bottom of the router its self then you must do this.

You need to connect to your router to access its settings, this is done by the way of a internet page that opens the settings of your router, since you are not connected by wireless you need to either connect the computer your having problems with by a cable to the router or use a computer that still has a wireless connection.

Once connected to the router by cable or wireless connection on another computer you need to do this.

If windows Xp go to start menu and the RUN on the right hand side of the popup menu,

If Windows Vista go to start menu and type run in the box at the bottom then click on run in the search window.

Once you have opened the run box TYPE cmd and hit enter.

MS-DOS Prompt will open, ( looks like a black box)
now type ipconfig

A list of things will show up, you need to look for
Default Gateway…………………………….: ( some numbers here)
Right these numbers down with dots included, thus looking somthing like this 192.168.11.1

once you have this number you need to open up your web browser e.g internet explorer and type in the address bar

http://the numbers here e.g http://192.168.11.1

and hit enter

this will bring up a password screen for your router, have a look in your manual for this.

once logged into the router, there will be loads of settings, look for security and then WEP key.
your sercurity code should be there some where,

Cheers
