network security tester
What should I be doing now?
Ok, I’ve been planning to go to college for almost a year now. I was going to go in early September but I backed out due to things that were still left to do ( getting a car, etc ). I plan on going to college for CIT security since I love anything to do with the field. I’ve been doing plenty of research, I consider my self on level with CompTIA A+/Network+ and halfway with Sec+. I know only one language, which is C#.
I’m just wondering what should i do in the 3 months before college?
Should I continue studying network security? Should I dive into another language like C++? What I’m really asking is; what should i study now that will make me a better security specialist, or student in that field?
Note:I ultimately plan on being a penetration tester, but I really do not know what actual particular security position I WANT yet.
Well, it took me five (5) years to get my degree in computer sciences from Duke and believe me, you’ll have to do all of this stuff… plus more (I never heard of) and it’s much easier in a class-room and lab environment..
I guess what I’m trying to get across is… don’t beat yourself over your head trying to get a jump on all of this… it will all come in time. As stated earlier, make sure your math skills are on par because you’ll sure need them once at the college level…. and just a good knowledge of the general computer is a must…. and then once at school, it’ll be… STUDY _ STUDY _ STUDY ……… but if a not-so-smart person like myself can do it, I’m sure you’ll have no trouble at all.
