network security course

I am a college student taking one of CISCO’s networking courses, how do I explain what CISCO does to my dad?

I am having trouble explaining what my planned career field is to my old man who is about computer illiterate as they come. I am going to be specializing in network security and wireless technologies and I am having trouble putting it into layman’s terms. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks in advance. :-)
