I am having trouble with my computer, it keeps freezing!?

I am having a bunch of trouble with my computer, an HP Pavillion (dv6240se) with windows Home Premium 2007 edition. For no reason at all, all the windows will freeze and I cannot close them. When I click “start” then “shut down”, it does not respond. If I hit ctrl + alt + delete, it will bring up a message saying “Failure: security options”. When I click, “ok”, it will just bring me back to frozen screen. The only way to power off is to manually take all the power from it or to hold down the power button. After restarting the computer the freezing happens all over again. Plz help….I am about to throw this computer out the window…lol

Your particular freezing issue can arise from any number of problems, which include:

1. Viruses/malware
2. Fragmentation
3. Slow Hardware
4. CPU overload (Installing more applications than your computer can handle

Here are the steps you should take to speed up your computer.

1. Check your computer for viruses
To do this, download any free antivirus software, such as AVG antivirus, or Avast antivirus. In addition, download a copy of Ad-aware free, and Windows defender. Update these applications to the latest versions, and scan your computer. If your computer finds any viruses or malware, delete those viruses, and see if your computer speeds up.

2. If you find no viruses, it is time to defragment your computer.
-Go to the start button
-in the search bar, type up “disk defragmenter”
-start the “disk defragmenter” application
-When you have started the application, allow it to defragment your drives.

3. If your computer is still slow, you probably have older hardware that cannot handle the demands of the applications installed on your computer. Make sure that you have at least these specifications of hardware on your computer.

- a 2GHZ Single Core Processor or better
- 2 Gigabytes of ram or more
- At least a geforce 5 series/Radeon 9000 Series/Intel GMA950 or better graphics
- A harddrive capacity of at least 80 Gigabytes or more

4. If your computer specifications are equal to, or better than the aforementioned specifications, then it is time to reinstall your computer.

- Backup all of your important info (Pictures, movies, documents, Games, etc)
- Once you have done this, reinstall Windows using either the Install CD your were given, or through the appropriate restore software that your manufacturer has provided you.
- Update your computer fully, ’til it is up to date.
- Install A free copy of Antivirus software (AVG or Avast) and free copies of antispyware (Ad-aware free and Windows Defender)
- Relocated your backed up information to your new machine.
